What is OINP?

OINP is an abbreviation for Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program. It works in conjunction with the Canadian Government via IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship). This program is designed for international students, foreign workers and others who wish to apply for permanent residence in Ontario.

The OINP identifies and nominates people with the skills and experiences needed in Ontario for permanent residence. Furthermore, once they have been selected, the Government of Canada makes the final decision to approve the selections.

Human Capital

This category is meant for workers with language skills, education, work experience, and a Canada Express Entry profile.

Job Offer by Employer

Another way to qualify for OINP is by having a permanent job offer from an employer in Ontario.

Business Category

Entrepreneurs who aim to buy an existing business in the province or start a new one can qualify for the nomination.

OINP Streams

Those who qualify via the employer Job offer category have the options of applying via three streams. Note that you must have created your profile on the OINP filling portal before you can select any of these streams. The next step is to register an expression of interest for your category. Bear in mind that you must have a permanent employment offer from an employer in Ontario and have received an invitation to proceed with your application. The streams available under the employer job category include:

Foreign Worker Stream

This category is meant for skilled jobs.

In-Demand Skills Stream

This is for urgent skilled workers in specific fields, including constructions, support team, agriculture, etc.

International Student Stream

Recent graduates residing in Ontario can apply through this route.

OINP International Student Stream

International students studying in Canada have the opportunity to become permanent resident via this scheme. Those eligible to apply are students who have completed their education in Canada not more than two years before submitting their applications.

Requirements:

To qualify for the OINP international student stream, you must meet specific requirements. Below are the criteria you must meet to apply for permanent residence in Canada via this stream:

A degree or diploma that runs for at least one year on a full-time basis or its duration is not less than two years on a part-time basis. Furthermore, your application must not exceed two years after graduation.

Another criterion is your legal status in Canada, including a study permit, work permit, or visitor record. This status must be maintained up to the nomination time.

The job offer must be from an employer in the country and must be eligible.

Applicants may be required to tender their expression of interest. Bear in mind that it is valid for a year, and you can edit and update your data countless times before you get an invitation.

The first step is that you ensure that you meet all the criteria of the stream you selected. Once you meet all the essential requirement of the stream, you should proceed to the next stage.

Create your profile and get a notification of interest or an invitation to apply

You need to create a profile before you apply for a nomination. Note that your profile will be evaluated based on a scoring system. The qualified applicant will receive a notification of interest or invitation to apply.

Apply for OINP nomination

If you are qualified, you will get an invitation to apply for the nomination. Ensure that you apply within 14 calendar days via the OINP e-filling portal. The cost for the business stream is $3,500 while that of the two other streams (human capital and employer job offer) is either $2,000 or $1, 500. Furthermore, you can only make payments with MasterCard and Visa. It is worth mentioning that the application processing times are not fixed.
